Welcome to the Richmond RING

July Review: Mike Vandeweghe

We had a great turnout for both the meetings on July 10th! Brian Rhodes spoke about the basics of why you should consider short sales and how they are done. This is an incredible time to get into investing in general, but especially short sales with the large number of defaulting no-equity leads many of us are getting. Please remember to contact Brian or Greg at Eagle if you are interested in participating in one of the great short sale programs they offer through their company to help you get started in doing short sales yourself as painlessly as possible! If you don't already know their website address by heart, it is www.EagleHouseDeals.com!

What a great speaker we had for the main meeting as well! Mike Vandeweghe certainly has a wealth of experience in real estate investing and shared a great deal of information about different aspects of the investing process, from finding the deal to great clauses to have in your lease for tenants. Since he is a local Richmond investor, he has an incredible amount of knowledge that we can all benefit from in our own investing enterprises. Mr. Vandeweghe has kindly offered to teach his full 4 hour course to members and guests of our group. The course is $50 per person and covers a broad spectrum of material. Please email president@richmondring.com if you are interested in attending this private class, as well as how many people would be attending with you. We would most likely be planning for a week-night session from 6-10pm. If that would not work for you let me know so we can try to accommodate as many people as possible.

Announcements

Fundementals of Real Estate Investing 101 - Special class July 31st for RING members and guests

We are pleased to announce that Mike Vandeweghe will be teaching a private class to our group and our guests on the evening of July 31st. This class, the Fundementals of Real Estate Investing, is a four hour course which Mr. Vandeweghe developed himself and is taught at the University of Richmond and the Moseley-Flint School of Real Estate. For those of you that attended our last RING meeting, Mr. Vandeweghe spoke on some of the topics included in his course, ranging from finding deals and financing to leases, land lording, and 1031 exchanges. In addition to teaching and being a licensed real estate broker, Mr. Vandeweghe has over 25 years of real estate investing experience in both residential and commercial properties and currently manages 143 residential high-rise condos in South Richmond. There is a wealth of information that will be covered in the class which will greatly benefit new and experienced investors alike, not to mention you will receive a copy of Mr. Vandeweghe's own lease that he uses himself and has "perfected" over his many years of investing!

The class will be held at the Richmond Realtor's Association building located at 8975 Three Chopt Road, Richmond, VA 23229 on Thursday July 31st from 6-10pm. The cost of this special class will be $60 per person, which will cover the course, the room rental and light refreshments, due upon your arrival as cash or check payable to the Richmond R.I.N.G. This class is open to members and all guests, so please feel free to bring a friend who is interested in learning more about real estate investing! In addition, those of you who are licensed real estate professionals may attend this class for 4 hours of continuing education credit. Remember to bring your Virginia Real Estate Board license number to the meeting for credit!

This is a wonderful opportunity to broaden your education and learn from a local Richmond investor! Please RSVP by July 28th with the number of people that will be attending with you to president@richmondring.com. I look forward to seeing everyone at the class!

Casual speakers needed for new investor pre-meeting sessions!

Please consider volunteering to speak at one of our upcoming new investor pre-meetings which take place at 6:30pm on the regular meeting nights. We are looking for seasoned investors and real estate minded people to speak to "rookies" about very basic concepts pertaining to the business, including things like business entities, taxes, advertising/marketing, ways to get deals, financing, exit strategies, rehabbing, land lording, and anything else you can think of! If you fancy yourself pretty good at any of these subjects and could take a few minutes to go over the basics and answer a few questions, please let me know! You will be forging great relationships with those that will one day soon be giving you deals or buying them from you! We'll keep it informal and low-key, so presentations and public speaking experience are not required! Email president@richmondring.com if you are interested in taking on a topic!

Looking for refreshments!

Sometimes the way to a person's heart is through their stomach… Members are encouraged to volunteer to provide refreshments for the group. In exchange for your generosity in quenching our thirst and filling out bellies, you will be provided with a few minutes at the begining of the meeting to talk to the group about your company and/or the service you provide. Contact Gloria Timberlake (or president@richmondring.com if you don't know Gloria's information; I'll pass it along) if you'd like to provide refreshments and plug your company for an upcoming meeting!
